Langston Hughes: A Jazz Poet

James Mercer Langston Hughes is a poet, a columnist, a playwright, an essayist, a literary writer, and a novelist. He was one of the first innovators in literary and artistic forms known as jazz poetry. Hughes, like everyone else, actively participated in the Harlem Renaissance, but he had a strong consciousness of racial pride.
