Labour Unions and General Motors

The joint venture between General Motors and Toyota is known as the new United Manufacturing Company. It began in 1984 and is one of the closing plants of GM in Fremont, California. The factory was traditionally one of the worst factories in the country and it was closed due to quality issues and hostile labor relations. At that time, there was a report that GM employees were drinking and gambling while working at the factory. There are also many reports that factory workers intentionally tampered the production line. In Fremont's California factory there are records of notorious problem workers and inferior products and when two competing automobile manufacturers jointly manufacture automobiles people think that there is snowstorm in hell started. What makes this joint venture very compelling is the integration of the two cultures, not just the state but management and labor.
