La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre

One of the main cohesiveness of the La Birgen de la Kallaarde del Coble community in southern Florida is La Birgen de la Khalidad del Cobre or Our Lady's charity. In 1898, after Cuba became independent from Spain, she became the official goddess of the island. Cuban soldiers attributed their victory to the Virgin Mary intervention in his independence movement. Our Lady is seen as a religious tradition that gathers Cubans strongly on both sides of the Strait of Florida. In South Florida, the Cubans in the USA gather every year and celebrate the feast of Our Lady on September 8.
