Jackie Hawley, a conductor of a childhood choir, taught a lot about the subtle aspects of vocal skills and guidance. Years ago, she urged me to become a conductor. During the 2014 - 15 year season, I participated in two mentoring courses at Waterloo and Mark Vuorinen. In the summer of 2016, I sang a room choir with a friend. In the autumn of 2016, I was a student conductor of the University of Waterloo Choir and performed at a concert. In the winter of 2017, I participated in master classes and seminars and went up to the podium, during which I held a concert at Guelph Chamber Singers College. This is the next chapter of my research. From January to April 2018, I will participate in several projects to improve the command skills of the chorus.
In the United States, junior high schools and high schools frequently use choirs as student classes and activities. Several choirs participated in the competition. The popular choir in high school is a performance choir. Because the students' voices are changing, middle school and high school are important times. The girl experienced a change in voice, but the boy is more intense. Many of the literature on music education focuses on how male voice changes work and how to help young male singers. In the research by John Cooksey, we divide the change of male voice into five stages, but most junior high school students are in the early stage of change. The range of voices of male and female students is limited, and their voices are also changing. Teachers of the choir must be able to adapt to it.
