I have never heard of the artist Artemisia Gentileschi before this introductory art course. Among all the paintings and sculptures found in the book, her work stands out and speaks to me. "Head of Judith, Maidservant and Holofernes" is a particularly rich oil painting by Italian Gentileschi drawn in Europe around 1625. Her big canvas size is 72 inches and ½ inches × 55 inches and ¾ inches. And it was a Bible story about life originally inspired by oil. This painting at the Detroit Art Museum is a gift from the art collector.
In Gentileschi 's picture "Judith and Maidservant with Holofernes", a dramatic, dark colored Judith has a sword on the one hand, a candle burns on the table, lights up the scene, and the other hand illuminates the scene Raise your hand. Perhaps shocked by the voice, and her maid was above the cut head of Holofernes. I am waiting to see if their two expressions are still being discovered. Gentileschi truly captures almost indifferent expression of Judith. The contrast of her light and dark is increasing the strength and strength of the story. Caravaggio's "Head of David and Goliath" shows that David has a huge Goliath on his left hand and a sword on the left. Both are illuminated with intense light; only the night behind them adds a strong contrast. Blood dropped suddenly from the head of Goliath, his face was caught and frozen at an amazing time, and David was almost sad and calm with his eyes.
Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio depict non-traditional religious themes; two similar themes are Caravaggio's "Head of David and Goliath" (c.1610) and Gentileschi's "Judith, Maid and Holofernes Head "(About 1625) Both pictures evoke dramas and use contrast techniques to add effective strength to their painting stories Gentileschi's painting theme is attacking Bethulia Jews Judith is from the Judith book telling the story of Holofernes; Judith may be raped by Holofenes, sleeping at the account when he is drunk, or may bother him in him Caravaggio 's painting theme comes from the story of Samuel' s book, David and Goliath, a huge Philistine warrior, which was defeated by the young King David king of Israel.
