Juan Ponce de Leon was born in Sines in Germany on December 3, 1460. He began to be interested in cousin Christopher Columbus and was very close to the neighboring Vasco da Gama so it is not surprising that he became a world renowned explorer. In 1493, he accompanied Columbus for the second time exploring the United States. Due to the difference between Ponce de Leon and his cousin, he did not go home, but remained in Santo Domingo, now known as the Dominican Republic. So, he developed a rare illness that caused him to lose his right hand. As a result, Deleon had to learn to type again with his left hand.

In addition, in 1508, Hurricane Holy Locke, named after the Catholic sanctuary, attacked the newly discovered Puerto Rico territory. Juan Ponce De Leon petitioned the Spanish king Ferdinand and asked the royal family permission to travel to Puerto Rico. The king agreed. In August 1508, Ponce de Leon gathered the crew and a few ships and set sail. From 1508 to 1509 he explored the island and founded the oldest Kapala village near San Juan. In 1510, King Spain became Puerto Rico's Governor General Ponce de Leon. However, he was replaced by Diego Columbus in 1511. When Christopher Columbus found the land, he gained control. When he died in 1506, his son Diego inherited these rights. Diego went to court and the Spanish monarchy had no choice but to give him ownership. However, the Spanish royal family wants Ponce de Leon to find a new land. He heard a story about young spring and lots of money at the island called Bimini (now in the Bahamas). In March 1513 he left Puerto Rico to find this fountain.
