In Canada, indigenous women and girls are fully represented as victims of exploitation and sex trade. There is an important relationship between disappearance, killing and sex trade of indigenous women and girls in Canada.
Traffickers and buyers have specific markets targeting extremely vulnerable indigenous women and girls. Traffickers and purchasers are more violent against indigenous women and indigenous women are more convicted
The fundamental cause of this increase in vulnerability is the continued impact of colonialism on indigenous society, the heritage of boarding schools and their generation, domestic violence, child abuse, poverty, homelessness, systematic ethnic groups Sexual and gender based discrimination, lack of education, lack of support network, rural / remote living, and material dependence
If you believe that someone knows you are being trafficked, please contact National Traffic Crisis Hotline (866.528.7109) or Crime Stoppers 800.222.8477. In Manitoba, please call 844.333.2211
