In the whole of the biblical symbolic novel "Eden Oriental" in eastern Eden, Steinbeck used many Biblical references to clearly explain the conflict between opposing good and evil powers. Most plots of East Eden were focused on two groups of siblings representing Cain and Abel. Both pairs resemble Cain and Abel, as they win the support of their fathers. All four gave gifts to his father, but his father refused to give Cain representatives Charles and Caleb's gifts (Max, Jay Leicester).

In 1952, John Steinbeck published works called his novels "East of Eden", "Large Works". This is a symbolic reproduction of the Cain and Abel Biblical stories in Salinas Valley, Canada, which later Stevens wrote. His life is hoping to reaffirm his status as a major novelist. Described as the most ambitious novel by Steinbeck, East Eden is centered around two families, Trasks and Hamiltons. Both were the initial residents of the Salinas Valley in California. The author wrote a book to his son, Tom, 6 years old and John 4 years old, and put himself as a small figure in the novel. Steinbeck wants to record the detailed and multifaceted history of Salinas Valley for children. In addition, the author wrote that the novel is "a soul for myself", "It has all the things I can master in my crafts or occupations over the years".

In East Eden, symbol use and symbolization are used precisely. Like all other novels, symbolism is one of the features of Steinbeck's work. Symbolism uses objects, graphics, colors, and letters when describing abstractions and concepts. The use of symbolism in the eastern part of Ian is the most classic. Symbolism reveals the realism of eastern Eden without sacrificing modernism. The valley of Salinas, the original title of the novel, is the representative of the Bible of Eden's Garden. The lyrical beginning of the book draws the scent and landscape of the valley in parallel with Edn's garden, and devastated in the depiction of the Bible. Salinas Valley is home to the game between Adam and Cathy. It represents the origin of the devil's deception that brought about the collapse of mankind. The wound he received after Charles Trask hurt himself represents the sign of Cain.
