John Miller: Father of the Roller Coaster

Many inventors have contributed to the advancement of roller coasters, and each of them has had a big impact on today's roller coaster. The earliest inventor was August John Muller, born in Homewood, Illinois in 1874. He was 19 years old and was born in Hellwood, Illinois. At the age of 19, Miller began working with a man named LaMarcus Thompson and became his chief engineer. By 1911, Miller was a Philadelphia Sled Company (PTC) consultant, where he designed more than 12 roller coasters for PTC, including the huge gigantic roller coaster at Paragon Park in Nantesque Beach, Massachusetts Did. In the late 1920s and the Great Depression, Miller was a partner.

By 1919, John Miller developed the first low pressure roller coaster. Soon, the roller coaster spread to amusement parks around the world. Perhaps the most famous historic roller coaster, Cyclone, opened in Coney Island in 1927. Like a cyclone, the initial roller coasters were all made of wood. In Kenny Wood, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the British Pleasure Beach Blackpool, many old wooden roller coasters are still in operation. The oldest roller coaster in Lake Monmouth, Pennsylvania was built in 1902 as a side friction roller coaster. The oldest wooden roller coaster in the UK is the tourist railway of the Dream Amusement Park in Margate, Kent. A system where breakers ride with wheels. It was severely damaged by the fire on 7th April 2008, but it was resumed in 2015 and then opened to the public. The roller coaster opened in 1921 and is the sixth oldest roller coaster in the world.
