In 1978, Mrs. Onassis served as a deputy editor under the guidance of another friend of Doubleday John Sargent, initially installed in a small office without windows. She said it would be useful when Nancy Tackerman, the social secretary of the White House, found a job there. These two work closely together for the next 15 years. To Doubleday, she was finally promoted to a senior editor. Mrs. Onassis was called an elegant and discreet colleague. She had to tell her story at the editorial meeting just like everyone else. She avoided the social scene actively being done in the industry. Perhaps it is almost impossible to expand the network of contacts. For example, she often eats lunch at a desk to avoid lunch at Four Seasons and 44 restaurants.
