Modern French playwright Jean Anouilh is a tragic playwright of the 20th century. His most famous work is a contemporary version of Antigon, a tragedy of Sophocles. Anouilh's Antigone also commented on the professions of the French Nazis. By rewriting the contemporary mythology, Annie resurrected the problem of free will under state power.
