Jean Anouilh

Modern French playwright Jean Anouilh is a tragic playwright of the 20th century. His most famous work is a contemporary version of Antigon, a tragedy of Sophocles. Anouilh's Antigone also commented on the professions of the French Nazis. By rewriting the contemporary mythology, Annie resurrected the problem of free will under state power. The tragedy of Sophocles happened in Greece, but Annyl wanted to show that eternity and universality of this law contradicts the sacred law.
