Jamaican culture and society I. Introduction Looking back on the colonial remnants: When discussing and analyzing contemporary Caribbean culture, we must recognize the bad legacy of colonialism and imperialism. In modern Caribbean society, politics and economy have weakly hidden the past influences of the colonial era and hegemonic era. Due to the rest of the colonial system such as slavery and the agricultural system, the Caribbean has experienced a series of negative social influences, the integration of unified cultural identity.

Jamaican culture includes defining Jamaican people's religion, norms, values, lifestyle. Culture is a mixed and ethnically diverse society derived from the history of residents starting from the original Taino. The Spaniards first brought slavery to Jamaica. Then they were knocked down by the British. Jamaica was later released on August 1, 1834 and became independent from England on August 6, 1962. A black slave was suffering and resisting the harsh conditions of forced labor and became a major cultural power. After abolition of slavery, Chinese and Indian immigrants were brought to the island as contract workers and brought ideas from the Far East. These contributions resulted in diversity affecting Jamaica's language, music, dance, religious and social norms and practices.

The culture of Jamaica is influenced by Africa and Britain. Many Jamaican citizens like cricket from the UK. English is the official language of Jamaica. However, many Jamaican people speak dialects in African and English languages. Cuban culture is influenced by the Spanish history. Many Cubans speak Spanish and some speak English. Some people in the Caribbean live with extended families, others live with small families. Many Caribbean people practice Christianity. Others practice their ancestral beliefs in Africa and the Americas. People in the Caribbean may migrate to other parts of North America, such as the United States and Canada.

Jamaican culture is a product of the interaction between Europe and Africa. However, terms such as "African-centered" and "European-centered" are often used to denote the duality of Jamaican cultural heritage and values. The influence of Europe will last for public institutions, medicine, worship and art of Christianity. However, African religious life, Jamaican creole, food, proverbs, drumming, Jamaican music and dance rhythm, traditional medicine (related to herbal therapy and psychotherapy) and Anansi story, spider continuous African continuity
