On April 6, 1992, it is time to prohibit the use of mines in El Salvador. Last weekend, three brothers and sisters died near the Guazapa volcano when he took a landmine planted during the civil war. Ironically, parents just returned to this area only a few days ago. Children are 4 years old, 6 years old, and 8 years old. A part of the body of the three children was 30 meters away from the scene of the explosion. Antipersonnel land mines are throwing thousands of dead each year.
Jody Williams was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997. Because she banned landmines through an international campaign banning landmines and shared a peace prize for that year. At that time, she became the tenth year woman - the third woman in the USA - and received an award in nearly a hundred years history. Since protesting the Vietnam War she is a lifelong supporter of freedom, self-determination, human rights, and citizenship. Like people devastated in other wars, she is a true candidate for peace activists who work to recover human security rather than national security, far beyond the real meaning of peace, that is, the absence of armed conflict is. Predefined Williams thinks it is not for cowards to work for peace. It requires tenacious compliance and a commitment to sustainable peace, based on environmental justice and on satisfying the basic needs of the majority of people on the planet.
Within five years, the international campaign against the land mine (Mine banning movement) has been changed from an NGO awareness group to an important catalyst (and coordinator, Jody Williams) to sign a global ban on landmines. He is trying to win the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize (Leguey-Felliux, 2009, p. 122). This nonprofit organization is putting pressure on the international community to use intuitive and enthusiastic plan to strengthen necessary changes. The United Nations Mine Conference held in Geneva in April 1996 helped to embark on the momentum to achieve the ultimate goal of the World Convention and to deliver the sensitive delicacy necessary for NGOs and future governments to achieve the Convention We provided a platform for carrying out negotiations. Felliux, 2009, page 124. International campaign to ban land mines and the international community danced around this problem through numerous meetings. All of them focused on the mine banning problem at the world stage.
