We had a cat and a dog about the idioms problem that it was raining ("It is very raining"). This and other ambiguous idioms often lead to vague explanations. I came up with the idea that some early British rain washed away cats and dogs from the roof (they might have lived there). Another suggestion is that the flood will take a dead cat or dog to the river (the speaker concludes that poor animals are falling out of the sky)
However, these recommendations are at most speculative, and on the contrary, we have to draw conclusions for unclear reasons. In order to find the etymology of words and phrases, the first proof must be seen, and the first proof of this idiom in Oxford English dictionary actually includes dogs and skunks:
For the next proof of OED, the order dog and cat is used. This indicates that the word order setting has been changed.
(2) There is a house on the head here, so it does not harm even if it rains in dogs and cats. (OED, 1661)
Finally, this idiom is very rare, like the most interesting and imaginative idioms, it is very rare. Historical American English Corpus (COHA) found that there were about 1 instance per million words. The latest example of COHA has commonly used idioms.
My sister and I were trapped in a house without electricity when I was 12 years old. Our mother went to a nearby temple to confine us. It does not make me feel scared of thunder and rain, but I know where the fact that she is alone. At that time, we did not have a mobile phone. We remember standing close to the entrance of our house and seeing the sliding door railings like the prisoners in the movie. When we stood there, we saw our favorite tree that fell at least 8 feet tall. The rain eventually slowed down to drizzle. When my mother came home, I found out that I was crying near the fallen tree. She immediately took out the shovel, dredged the mud around the roots, lifted the trees, added more mud to the foundation, and the tree stood up again. It lives for many years. That day, my mother is my hero.
Are snow-covered cats and dogs wrong English? Well, we said the rain cats and dogs, but all the water that should rain to freeze in the snow for the past 2 days, the cat and the dog under the snow. Taking a break from the office means catching up with housework, which also means to snow shovel :( The good part is to exercise by doing this;)
Is there anyone who wants to know what happens when cats and dogs are really raining? Well, I will give you my opinion on this subject! The world will be so overly impressive! Every day 1,000,000,000,00 dogs and cats are falling from the sky. So many dogs and cats are equal to more animals without houses, and also injured in a very high autumn ... I am a rain cat and dog, population over, for more homeless animals I dislike it and more injured animals will hurt!
