Discrimination against women has been widespread for centuries. Women are suffering from all these because of cultivation / emotional stereotypes, housewives' status, low wages of labor force, sexual abuse etc. However, Kate Chopin is deeply exploring women's most deprived rights, but this is an individual's right, there is no meaning or value without freedom: self assertion, introspection, independence.
