His parents are Judah and Anna Asimov. Isaac also has sisters Veronica and brothers Stanley. In 1923 his family moved to the United States. He and his family grew up in Brooklyn, New York. In Brooklyn, his family runs a small candy magazine store. This is one place Asimov began to learn to print.

Asimov moved to America in 1923. After a variety of work, Isaac Asimov's father founded a small snack and a newspaper dealer - lovingly remember "candy shop". Through this store, a young Isaac Asimov began to understand the "phenomenal surprise" of pulp magazines, especially the "Amazing Story" of SF pulp published by Hugo Gernsbach.
