The name of Jackson Heights comes from Jackson Avenue, the original name of Northern Bourbon Street, the main road dividing the community into two parts. In 1859, John C. Jackson established the way to the present Jackson Heights. The name of Jackson Avenue is preserved by this highway between Queens Square in Long Island City and Midtown Tunnel in Queens.
