Iron Deficiency: A Major Health Issue in the World

Iron (Fe) is an essential micronutrient for all organisms including humans, but it can not be used immediately. Therefore, iron (Fe) deficiency is a major threat to the human health and development of the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that nearly 7 billion people are short of iron, 2 billion of whom are anemic (World Health Organization, 2007). Iron deficiency is the most common in South Asian countries (Zlotkin et al., 2004). In Bangladesh, about half of children in Bangladesh and 70% of women suffer from anemia (Ahmed 2000).

About half of women in low-income countries are suffering from anemia, but most of them suffer from iron deficiency. Providing easy and inexpensive health promotion activities to prevent iron deficiency leads to the conclusion that women's nutrition is still largely ignored. The shortage of iron, iodine and vitamin A affects most humans, causing huge damage to health, learning and work capability, and tremendous damage to human and economic development. Range hood Many poor people depend directly on the natural resource base whether they are self-sufficient farmers or major food producers. Social institutions that acquire and retain these resources, such as farmlands and fishing rights, are decisive for these people and their children's well-being. In addition, the quality of land and water resources directly affects their nutritional status and ability to generate income.

The deficiency of iron and zinc is common in developing countries and puts the personal health and economic well-being of the community seriously at risk. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), iron deficiency affects people around the world more than any other disease. Iron deficiency can adversely affect individual's physical and cognitive development and may reduce the economic progress of affected communities by reducing work volume. Sorghum is an important staple food such as rice that can be solved by nutritional improvement to solve iron, zinc and vitamin A deficiency. Sorghum originates in Africa and is the main food for 300 million people in the continent of Africa and about 70% of the world's sorghum is grown in Africa.
