Invisible Man

What is invisible? Let's see someone else. Sometimes society completely ignores our existence. We are invisible because we are not noticed or because other people can not see our real identity because of expectations related to race, gender or class. Of course, the word invisibility is not intended to be understood literally. The invisible meaning of Ellison 's invisible man is basically figurative. Ralph Ellison's invisible man, the hero, experiences invisible things in various ways and situations.

Invisible man, IM or "narrator" is the name given to the hero by many researchers and scholars (Bourassa). An invisible person is a title given to himself by the narrator. He expressed himself as "invisible" in the first sentence of the book. Throughout the novel, he used his life experience as evidence of his stealth. The narrator did not tell his name, strategy of the author. By refusing to give the name to the hero, Ellison can deny the identity of this invisible person.
