Mr. Walter Ogg's "invention", literacy, a powerful scholar who writes technology based on the relationship between technology and media, is arrogant and tends to utilize itself as a norm for human expression and thinking. In high-tech culture this culture is based on the necessary reading and writing skills and encourages people to think that literacy is always in expectation even though it is natural (316). Ong may think that literacy is deeply integrated into the current technical culture and therefore is part of the standard of living, the conditions necessary for the operation in this highly specialized world.

The ability to create literacy is the ability to read and write artifacts from the toaster to the application.
