This overview outlines the life, career, and social thinking of Gerhard Lenski. After a preliminary explanation of the contribution of Lenski, the paper is divided into two parts. The first part examines the origin of Lensky as the main social theorist, the influence of education and biography, and the knowledge base of his sociological theory. In Part 2 we introduce the work, influence and heritage of Lenski and lay the foundation for the four original papers out of the six main areas of Lenski's work.
