The University of Iowa Sports program offers a variety of sports leagues, tournaments and events to students of the University of Iowa. The first campus sports division was founded at Ohio State University and the University of Michigan in 1913. At that time, graduate student Elmer Mitchell was appointed as the first sports director at the University of Michigan in 1919 and became the first leisure sport.
