Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are the result of laboratory processes that extract genes from certain DNA and manually force them to genes of irrelevant plants and animals. Foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals and even humans. Since this involves the introduction of genes, GMOs are also known as "transgenic" organisms.
