This book is in a coffee shop in a modern city of Spokane, Washington State. The main character of this story is Zach Wahhsted, Alan Mender, Joey Mender. Zach Wahhsted is a patient with schizophrenia for 16 years. He often has hallucinations and human hallucinations; but when he forgets to take medication he listens to the two voices telling him to commit suicide. Zach struggles to understand what is real and what is in his heart. Alan Mender is a 17-year-old boy and his brother and his mother grew up in a rough neighborhood diagnosed with cancer.

After parents' adoption, Terry and Carrie Benson (12 years old) went to the Willow Hills orphanage in Brooklyn, New York. They met Mrs Rivers, the director of an orphanage, and immediately filled out the necessary documents. Here, they met Trevor, an orphan bully, and he was still filling in the paper. Since Christmas, he tried to steal Carrie's pen soon. His ink died out and it was borrowed to him. Carrie finally succeeded in stealing it from Trevor 's pocket, and the two went outside to join other children. Terry took part in baseball games, but when Terry skipped 20 feet per year to capture the ball, everyone began to notice the strange thing! At that time Trevor accused Terry that he was squeezing something to catch the ball, but Trevor then returned there, could not find the location of Terry, he said he was cheating. Terry Fox was born in Manitoba, Winnipeg on July 28, 1958, and Terry grew up in Coquintlam, British Columbia. He is very active since he was a child.
