Innocence is an acceptable excuse for contradiction between behavior and social norms. In Henry James 's novel "Western Miller", it seemed that Daisy was controversial in the mid 1800' s. She looked straight at the man without blushing and knew that he traveled with Mr. Winterbourne after 30 minutes and often ran with a handsome and regular Italian man I spoke dullly about her life.
