I hope that society plays an important role in the development of Hamsan's starvation and Hesse's Siddhartha. Social expectation comes from the origin of individuals in society (based on their own morals) creating authorities and norms of behavior to follow people obeying. Both novels reveal the role of the hero, but authors deal with these themes in various ways. Hamsan walked through the hero's path through unexpected loneliness and exhausted fate, and the hero could not find a place in society.
Siddhartha is a handsome and respected son of Brahman living in ancient India with his father. Everyone in the village wants Siddhartha to be a successful Brahmin like his father. Siddhartha and his best friend Govinda enjoyed almost idle life, but he was not satisfied with it. He did all the rituals of religion, what he says in religion should bring him happiness and peace. Still, he feels that something is missing. He felt that his father and other elders had not yet been enlighted and he could not solve his problem about the essence of his existence even with them. This book starts with Siddhartha as a small boy living with Brahmin 's parents in a medium - scale city in India. His father was a wealthy and powerful sacred Broomin, and Siddhartha was expected to follow him as a footstep of Brahmin. He soon learned how his people were, and when he was young he was talking with his elders. This is when Siddhartha began to preach on him. He may have decided not to be under the spells of teachers and elders but to find their own way. He has a desire for knowledge - the author is very good, he said he is a "ship of dissatisfaction". He found that the old man and teacher just dropped a drop of water to find the knowledge, but they just knew this. He is not satisfied with his life style. Because he knows how to go to the world and how to experience the world on his own.
