Modern civilization experienced three major social and economic changes, the industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution was built around steam and transformed the modern society by redefining transport and manufacturing processes. According to Thomas Edison, who promised to "reorganize the lives of the world" by providing efficient energy and modern communication, the emergence of electricity has caused a second revolution . Later, electricity opened the way for our third (and present) digital revolution to release civilization from fossil fuels and to provide technology to more than 4 billion people worldwide.
