Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution was the era of major industrialization that took place in the late 1700s and early 19th century. The Industrial Revolution began in the UK and spread rapidly all over the world; the American Industrial Revolution was often called the Second Industrial Revolution and began between 1820 and 1870. Meanwhile, mechanization of agriculture and textile manufacture, and electric power revolution including steamboat and railroad affected social, cultural and economic conditions.

The Industrial Revolution occurred about 200 years ago, but this period has had a major impact on people's lifestyle and business customs. It can be said that the factory system developed during the Industrial Revolution was responsible for creating capitalism and modern cities of the day. The production efficiency has increased during the Industrial Revolution, and the invention like a steam engine greatly shortened the time required to manufacture the product. Then more efficient production will lower the product price mainly due to lower labor costs. During the US industrial revolution, cheaper steel prices promoted the development of railway and bridge infrastructure.

The Industrial Revolution has created an increase in employment opportunities. As factories are increasing more and more, administrators and employees are required to operate them; this creates a dynamic effect of new and innovative products. The increase in technological innovation has brought innovative inventions that are still used today, such as phones, X-rays, light bulbs, calculators, anesthesia, etc., bringing higher levels of motivation and education. With the development of the Industrial Revolution, several big pitfalls have emerged. As people give up farms to work in urban factories, they can earn higher income and agriculture will decline. This has led to the shortage of food produced on the farm. The increase in pollution is a trap of the Industrial Revolution. Prior to the rapid increase in the number of factories, the volume of production was primarily artificial, so the amount of contamination occurring in the world was limited. The industrial revolution motivated to increase profits, the factory's working conditions worsened. Long hours work, low salary, and minimal break are standard. This has led to health problems for many factory workers since then. Due to poor working conditions formed during the Industrial Revolution, the Labor Party movement in the United States began to develop in the second half of the 19th century.

By convention, the Industrial Revolution ended around 1840. The Second Industrial Revolution - characterized by the emergence of large scale production and electrification - began around 1870. Then there was a computer and a third industrial revolution. Now, I think many people are experiencing the fourth industrial revolution brought about by artificial intelligence, automation, and new genetic technologies. These phases certainly must agree as meaningful to our technical and industrial development period. But from all perspectives of human history over 200,000 years it is more meaningful to pull back the lens and observe the four industrial revolution and treat them as the four phases of the event. In other words, the four stages of the Industrial Revolution are in progress beginning around 1800.
