Industrial Revolution

During the industrial boom in the early 1700s no one would have thought that these inventions and ideas could shape the world we live in today. You do not need to be a historian to know that new inventions bring more money; economically it is revolutionary. For example, a lathe is the oldest and the simplest machine tool. Usually used for carpentry, these are used to make decorative table legs, pillars, etc. In the late 17th century, clock manufacturers, scientific equipment manufacturers, furniture manufacturers and firearm manufacturers began using lathes instead of cutting timber.

By convention, the Industrial Revolution ended around 1840. The Second Industrial Revolution - characterized by the emergence of large scale production and electrification - began around 1870. Then there was a computer and a third industrial revolution. Now, I think many people are experiencing the fourth industrial revolution brought about by artificial intelligence, automation, and new genetic technologies. These phases certainly have to cope meaningfully to the year of the development of our technology and industry. But from all perspectives of human history over 200,000 years it is more meaningful to pull back the lens and observe the four industrial revolution and treat them as the four stages of the event. In other words, the four stages of the industrial revolution began around 1800 and are ongoing.

The industrial revolution was the era of major industrialization that took place from the late 1700s to the early 19th century. The Industrial Revolution began in the UK and spread rapidly all over the world; the American Industrial Revolution was often called the Second Industrial Revolution and began between 1820 and 1870. Meanwhile, mechanization of agriculture and textile manufacturing, electric power revolution including steamboat and railroad have had an impact on social, cultural and economic conditions.
