How will the future affect the indigenous peoples of the world? There is no clear answer to this question. All governments have to review past treatments and the current situation in order to decide what to do to improve their indigenous lives. The number of problems in the past is huge and all governments are unique. Problems include political power, education, environment, land [territory], intellectual property, poverty and so on. According to Gillette and Harry Anthony Patricos, "the United Nations declared 1995-2004 as the international decade of the world's indigenous people" (76).
