Jane Eyre has several themes. One of the themes is that the necessity of love is totally in contrast to the necessity of independence. As a growth novelist, Jane Eyre is striving for Jane to become independent, struggle, and ultimately grow. When the story begins, Gateshead is where passion for childhood is released (Lamonica 70). In Lowood, Jane no longer depends on the Reed family, but her passion is restricted by strict rules. However, the excessive passion between Thronfield, Jane, and Rochester ran through Thornfield Hall without planning for the future and hungry and lost consciousness at the entrance of the Rivers family at Marsh End (Teachman Online). Like Loard, Marsh End is a place where passion is a way of life. She was very worried about Saint John who asked her to marry him, but she knew that she could never use her passion for Rochester to love him.
