He won a medal for the outstanding contribution to the American literature of the National Book Foundation 2003. He lives in Bangor, Maine, with his wife's novelist, Tabitha King.

Joe Hill is the author of New York Times' best-selling Heart-Shaped Box and Horns and wrote an ongoing comic series, Locke & Key. He made lots of sounds under the @ joe_hill handle on Twitter.

Gao Cao is a novel written by Steven King and his son Joe Hill. It was originally published in June / July 2012 and August in 2 copies of Esquire magazine. This is the second collaboration between King and Hill since throttle released in 2009. On October 9, 2012, formats of electronic books and audio books were released on Tall Grass. His novel "Horns" was adopted by the same name horror fantasy starred by Daniel Radcliffe and produced a series of acclaimed dark fantasy cartoons, rocks and cases.
