At first, the competitive nationalism of European Jewish immigrants and Palestinian Arabs was almost religious. Along with Israel's independence, the controversy extends to an intermittent war between Israeli Jews and Arabs. It has evolved into a world-wide religious conflict where anti-Semitism competes with Islamic phobia, secularism and Islamism

1870-1914: At the end of the 19th century, thousands of European Jews came to Canada and escaped social and economic changes brought about by religious persecution, revolution, and industrialization. After the revolution failed in 1848, the first wave of Jewish refugees came from Germany. The second wave came from Pale, the settlement of Eastern Europe and Russia where the Jewish population is large. Social and political turmoil in this region between 1881 and 1914 caused an increase in anti-Semitism, the Jews faced restrictions on liquidity rights and economic freedom. At the turn of the 20th century thousands of European Jews came to Canada to find political, religious and social sanctuaries. The peak year of Jewish immigrants was 1914, 18,000 refugees, primarily craftsmen, small businessmen, and unskilled workers arrived in Canada.
