I think that you are watching this book later - and after 2013 - the Harry Potter world was founded - then comes out. I think that your criticism of the plot line is reasonable, but do remember that some of this book is for 10 year old people. These books appeared in my 4th grade (very young in the brain development field), but I do not like them, I understand them. The fact that adults also like these books and enjoying it is an incredible feat. But back to my main point of view

J. K. Rowling is one of the few fantasy authors who legally created an alternative world that is not a junk. As an adult, I can not put these books on the same level as Narnia, but I can compare the universe where they live. Even the fact that this comparison prove the world of Hogwarts can be thought of. Rolling achieved an incredible difficulty in the fantasy world. She has created a whole new role in a new world that is trustworthy, and more importantly requires your emotional attachment. There are no Basalisk, Dementors, Horcuxes, Hagrid in Twilight. Finally, you did not give Voldemort sufficient confidence.

Another book that can complete a rolling layoff is LOTR, Narnia, his dark material. I think that all three series are better than Harry Potter, but in fact you can make a series of works in conversations with those literary weights, which is a wonderful achievement.
