Hybrid Identities: Contemporary Conflicts of Cultural Identity

I got inspiration to participate in the "past performances" of my "mixed identity" course in the last semester. This course explores contradictions between contemporary cultural identity and performance through academic research on mixedness and authenticity, personal stories and self-reflection. Our performance at the end of the term was inspired by our own experience to find "real" self senses and maintain it. I am particularly interested in the personal account I have read and their role in helping us to understand ourself's identity formation and eventually to explain it creatively.

The discussion on blending in this research focuses on contemporary discussions on culture, race, and identity. This is the foundation of the hybrid model of the cultural category of de Toro. The main argument of this research is the nature of the problem of managing cultural, ethnic and religious differences in Malaysia's diverse societies when trying to establish identity as a common Malaysian.
