Brief description of disaster: In Florida, on August 24, 1992, complete destruction was the final result of Hurricane Andrew. Hurricane started at a speed of 20 miles per hour in the Atlantic Ocean. This is nearly twice the normal hurricane at the beginning. Hurricane Andrew 's strength is so strong that the instrument can not measure the wind. It is said that the wind has an approximation up to 200 miles per hour. Andrew destroyed about 28,000 houses, damaged 100,000 homes, lost 250,000 homes, lost nearly 30 billion dollars and nearly 30 deaths. Hurricane Andrew could not end destruction in Florida, and soon it went to Louisiana to give more damage. (Figure 1) ... Further display
On August 23, Hurricane Andrew reached a wind speed of 150 mph. A couple hours later, as a category 4 hurricane, Andrew's pressure dropped and the wind speed was about 175 miles per hour. This was when Hurricane Andrew arrived in South Florida on 24 August. Andrew's anger started at 4:30 AM. Andrew's strength and scale sounded in every direction. Various things flying in the air, a flying roof, a car thrown like a toy. The boat went from the water to the street. Overall confusion will be the best explanation of the latest situation. As the sun rises, the damage is obvious. At 11 am on the 24th, Andrew was flying South Florida. Andrew was about 30 miles away the way of destruction. Andrew has not finished yet, back in the Atlantic Ocean, Andrew has regained some of the power he lost during his visit to South Florida and is now heading for Louisiana. Louisiana received the same confrontation as South Florida endured. Andrew's power also brought tornado destruction. (Figure 4)
Social and economic impact of disaster: After Andrew, the social class seems to have disappeared. Everyone needs help right now. The rich and the poor accept donated food and goods. Regardless of how much, everyone will be treated the same way. Lose $ 30 billion
The best example of a powerful hurricane striking Florida is Hurricane Andrew. According to a report by the National Hurricane Center on Hurricane Andrew, the total loss is estimated at $ 25 billion! Fortunately, 26 people died directly with a hurricane, so good preparations prevented significant loss of life. To cope with environmental storms caused by storms, more than $ 2 billion is needed. In addition, the Offshore Oil Company reported that the hurricane destroyed seven oil pollution cases in the Gulf of Mexico. Perhaps the worst is that many people lost their homes and the majority of their property was destroyed due to private property damages of $ 15 billion. This hurricane caused great economic, social and environmental problems in Florida.
For Hurricane Andrew, the loss of human life and wealth is well documented. However, the impact on the environment is not well known. In southern Florida, Hurricane Andrew completely eliminated the northernmost vegetation of Florida Keys. In the case of mangroves, deciduous and timber damage killed large old forests along the coastline. In Louisiana, LGS Dr. Shea Penland and his colleagues reported that Andrew stripped the sand from 70% of Bali and left the exposed old coastal wetlands. More than 80% of oyster reefs behind Barrier Island are covered with 0.3 - 0.9 m thick deposits. A precious sand dune exceeding 70 kilometers is the estuary and provides wind protection for wetlands and coastal inhabitants.
