Human genetic modification is the process by which medical personnel and scientists change genetic makeup and human DNA (Clapper 1). This alteration is accomplished by adding some genes or removing other genes. The addition of the gene is achieved by a vector which can be a virus. The addition may be somatic or germ cell. In somatic cells, the added genes alter the genetic makeup of the body and germ cells change in germ cells.

Human genetic modification is direct manipulation of the genome using molecular engineering techniques. Recently developed techniques for modifying genes are often referred to as "genetic editing". Gene modification can be applied in two very different ways, "somatic gene recombination" and "reproductive genetic recombination". Gene recombination of embryos may change the genes of eggs, sperm, or early embryos. These changes often referred to as "genetic genetic modification" or "genetic editing for reproductive" will also occur in all cells of humans arising from gametes or embryos, and all subsequent generations. Germline alterations have not been attempted in humans, but so far it will be the most important type of genetic alteration. When used for strengthening purposes, it can open the door to new market-based eugenics
