How to make your school & classroom a sustainable place | WWF

If your community has a municipality or voluntary recycling system, please make sure your school is making the most of it. Always encourage students and employees to plan their recycling and to inform them why you are doing this. If there is a refund for a particular item (such as an aluminum can), you can encourage the students to collect canned food as part of school and environmental charity fund-raising events.

The classroom uses a lot of energy for lighting. When you leave the room, please make sure that the light is off. If there is sufficient natural light in the window, or if you are doing activities that require additional lighting, such as story time, you can usually turn off the light during the day. If you have a DVD player or computer in your room, make sure that they are completely turned off when not in use.

Well, this may not be the possibility for everyone, but if the school is close enough, the route is safe enough, and the students are encouraged to ride a bicycle to walk. By walking and cycling, students can conserve energy, make exercise easier in their environment and climate, and save money. Another possibility is public transport

Early in the morning, buying a packed lunch from a grocery store is easier than making something with fresh ingredients. However, raw materials for healthy meals can help the Earth, especially if these ingredients are grown locally. All extra packaging for these processed lunches also requires resources, and often nonbiodegradable packages add more landfill

For this purpose, WWF launched several programs to educate and inform consumers. Last year, many WWF offices cooperated with educational authorities, still providing information in elementary and junior high school classrooms, still forming eating habits. WWF France and WWF Italy developed digital applications for more mature audiences, allowing shoppers to make better decisions, provide recipe suggestions and explain the summary of carbon costs for shopping lists . The signs of progress are encouraging and the goal of building a sustainable food system is achievable. But I just continue to take action. It is extremely important that we take responsibility for our actions and food choices. More and more innovative alternative solutions are available. If we choose to accept them it is possible to tackle together to create a sustainable food system.

EfS modules can be carried out at any school, whether inside or outside the classroom. Cooking food at home garden, making a solar oven, and improving and observing the plant cycle all allow students to play an active role and contribute to a sustainable future. From a holistic point of view, EfS makes it possible to increase knowledge, skills and motivation in an increasingly connected world, thereby promoting themselves, the community, and the health of the earth. In the classroom, in daily work, sustainability is rich and strengthen students' learning.
