How to Analyze a Short Story

A short story is an essay of a short story, usually centered on a single event. It has a limited scope and has introductions, texts and conclusions. The short story is very similar to the novel (see the analysis method of the novel), but the accuracy of the sentence is much higher. You are often asked to write a literary analysis. Analysis of short stories requires basic knowledge of literary elements. The following guidelines and questions may be useful:

The setting explains when and where the story was done. In short stories, there are fewer settings than novels. More limited time

What role does this setting play in the story? Is it an important part of the plot or theme? Or is it just background of action?

How will this period affect the language, atmosphere, or social environment of short stories?

Characterization deals with how to explain the character in the story. In short stories, characters are usually less than novels. They are usually focused on central roles and protagonists

Explain the hero and other characters through dialogue - the way they talk (dialects and slang)?

Does the author explain the role through appearance, thought and emotion, and interaction (the way they handle others)?

From the point of view, we mean telling a story from anyone's eyes. Short stories tend to be conveyed from a role perspective

Do you always have any third party "unknown" who can clarify thoughts and behaviors of all roles regardless of location?

The style of the author relates to the vocabulary of the author, the use of the image, the mood, or the emotion of the story. This is related to his attitude towards this topic. In some short stories, the tone may be ironic, humorous, indifferent, or dramatic.

Does the author use many symbolic meanings? A metaphor (not using "as" or "like", a metaphor (comparative use of "as" or "like"))

You can analyze every element of a short story. For example, you may decide to analyze only one character and tell you how it meant the story.
