How narrative perspective influences reading

How do you write a novel on your reading experience? In a recent study, we examined the influence of the view of the story on the effect of literary reading comprehension experience. We have found evidence that readers can more immerse themselves in the story from the first person's point of view, and that they like them. While reading the stories from the third person perspective, we discovered that the activation of the sympathetic nervous system is higher.

The story point of view is considered an important tool for storytelling. Through this tool, the author of the story can instruct the reader to recognize the point of view of the event and generate a spiritual model of the story. For example, a writer may allow a reader to "see" or view a viewer through one eye of the letter. The story point of view is often thought of as an indispensable element in the understanding of the story, but reading, fictional person's recognition, and how much you like this story is unclear.

In this study, we began to test whether the immersion to the story and the evaluation on it were influenced from the point of view of the story. I asked participants to read eight short stories by Dutch novelists such as Thomas · Rosen Boom, Marga · Minco, Tommy · Willinga, Bernlef etc. In half of the original story, the hero is cited by first person pronoun (Ik) and the other half is cited by third person pronoun (hij or zij). For each story, we made the second version and we exchanged these pronouns and chose randomly the versions of the story among the participants.

When the participants are reading the story, we measure the activation of their sympathetic nervous system (the electrical activity of the skin), and the two electrodes are connected to their fingers. After reading each story, participants valued their favorite content and filled out a questionnaire to measure participation in the story. Understanding the story and the motivation of the characters, how many readers are loose by reading, how much emotional relationships are there with the hero, how much you feel the world of the story, and how you see it in the process of reading whether. We find that immersed in the story, that it is closely related, and that the first person's story is often more popular. These stories make the readers feel more involved in the world of the story and the more likely it is to experience psychological images in the process of reading. Interestingly, the measurement of our nervous system activity shows the opposite pattern. When reading a story from the viewpoint of a third party, the reader is likely to be awake. This study shows that the difference in small style of narrative style affects the way we experience literature.

Therefore, the reading process may differ for each reader and is more prominent than the cognitive model suggests. In this paper, we explain the features of a series of stories that are thought to influence the formation of viewpoints in literary reading and explore the relationship with individual differences in readers' answers. It is recommended that the interpretation process include a series of phases that are initiated by the features of a mean story that requires the reader to go beyond the model that initially led the understanding. Evidence from our research suggests that in such a gradual cycle, the reader's emotions shape transformations of the viewpoints and then form reactions to the developmental story in interpretation.
