How does the physical environment affect child well-being?

Gary Evans, a researcher at Cornell University's Department of Design and Environmental Analysis, is studying this important issue for most of his career. Evans is a psychologist in the environment and has done a lot of research to study the relationship between congestion, noise, housing, the quality of the community and the lives of children. His research shows that these factors have a profound effect on children's academic performance and cognitive and social development.

Noise is one of the factors in the study of Evans. Music, conversation, and traffic are the most common noises for children. Evans and colleagues discovered that the noise level such as the noise level of the house near the airport causes the child's reading to be delayed. Children adapt to hearing inputs to accommodate chronic exposure to noise, which can often delay language development.

Overcrowding is another factor that causes child's physiology and cognitive impairment.
