Cubatao in Brazil is famous for fatal high-level air pollution, leading to neonatal malformations and extensive health problems
By the early 1990s, however, pollution levels were reduced by 90% due to counter-attacks in the city known as "Death Valley."
However, Kubatao is one of the most contaminated cities in the area and we must strive to maintain clean air.
The author of the article "Poverty and pollution" considered several ethical dilemmas. The authors present an overview of the ecological state of Brazil's 'Valley of Death', one of the most contaminated areas on the planet. Valley air is full of harmful gas, and many residents are suffering from various health problems. Some people consider the negative impact on the environment a price for progress. But, on the human side, who pays social compensation for pollution? Some scientists
In Brazil it is known as the "valley of death", probably the most polluted place on Earth. It is an hour's drive from Sao Paulo to the south, where the land suddenly falls to 2000 feet in the coastline. More than 100,000 people live in the valley, and various factories release thousands of tons of pollutants into the atmosphere every day. A National Geographic reporter remembered that within one hour of arriving in the valley, the contaminated air inflamed the bronchi and the chest started to hurt because of restricted breathing.
The town of Kubatao in Brazil is known as the valley of death. Because the level of pollution as it overwhelms nearby forests and kills them as people see in the suburbs of nuclear bombs. In the 1980s Cubatao's land, air and water systems were evaluated as the most contaminated system in the world. Probably the most sad and amazing fact is that Cubatao was born at the highest percentage of children with Anencephaly. This is commonly called "child without brain". More than half of the brain, skull, scalp are not formed at birth. If these children have not yet been born, they usually die within a few hours after birth.
Perhaps as the biggest pollution prevention program in Brazilian history, this industrial city in the Serra do Mul mountain range is gradually losing fame as a "valley of death". Together with government agencies in São Paulo state, Cetesb, Cetesb officials, and Cubatao residents, one of the most polluted cities in the world, said they want industrial companies to reduce pollution. Environmental issues are synonymous with America and Western Europe, but people in countries like Brazil are beginning to learn the meaning of words like pollution, ecology and smoke. So it is not surprising that most governments do not have the will and power to act against polluters.
