Honors College

After World War II, the honor program became somewhat general when high quality students seeking higher education skyrocketed beyond the capacity of private universities carefully selected. The current honor program for modeling began in public universities in the late 20th century. The first of the current type dates back to 1960 at the University of Oregon - Honorary Clark Clark. By 1990, the honorable course was everywhere and constantly evolved. Peterson's "Smart Choice: Honor and College Guide" showed in 2005 that nearly 600 honorary courses existed in two-year and four-year universities in the United States. A survey of honor courses under the National University Honor Committee in 2008 reflects that most of the growth of the honorary course is recent and more than 60% of honorary courses have been established since 1994.

Reaud Honors College was established in 2015 and became the ninth honorary college in Texas. Honors Program has been part of the academic program of the university since 1963. On October 7, 2014, the 45,000 sq. Ft. Wayne A. Reaud building of Honors College and University Executive Office started. Honors College is a member of the National University Honor Committee and the Great Plains Honor Committee. The University of Lamar campus is located in Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue near Highway 69 in the southeast of Beaumont, Texas. The campus is 11 miles from the Jack Brooks region airport, 3.2 miles from the Nechez River and 8.0 miles from Beaumont city center. Big Bush National Reserve, Village Creek State Park, Gulf of Mexico are within 30 minutes from school.
