History

Department of Computer Science was established by foresighted people. This vision shows how computer science adapts to Yale's unique spirit, different levels of institution, mainly undergraduate education, and close collaboration between departments. This department is closely related to mathematics and engineering, but it is increasingly cooperating with other important subjects of Yale University (psychology, linguistics, economics, business, statistics, music, medicine, physics etc) doing. The most comprehensive understanding of the importance of computer science in a broader sense is through these collaborations.

One of the founder of the faculty is Alain Paris who came to Yale University from Carnegie Mellon University in the early 1970s. He embodies the rare combination of human warmth and scientific imagination so that everyone who knows him can prove. In 1990, his long-term illness and unfortunate death caused a blow to the categories. In commemoration of him, the department held the annual Alan J. Perlis seminar in 1992. Every spring, an excellent lecturer will be invited to give a lecture on the theme of computer science, but from the perspective of a wider audience. People from all walks of life in Yale and people from many places other than Yale University will hear about the impact of computer science on certain aspects of their lives. Recent topics are as follows. The 1995 Glass City Seminar was also an opportunity to hold a birthday party for this division. We have invited a lot of people since we were able to find people related to this department since our establishment. Two days after the usual Glass City conference, we conducted a series of discussions and panel discussions on how to form departments, how their missions evolved over the years, and their direction. The department has made an excellent contribution to this field for a long time. It is a pleasure to see how many graduates have a strong interest in our activities.

In 1987, the department moved to its own building Arthur K. Watson Hall, and the approach to the department of the university became dramatic. Originally built in the mid 1890's, the building was completely burned out, only the exterior bricks were left, then rebuilt from the outside to meet one high-tech requirement of the country's leading computer science research department.

Nobody knows what the Yale University Computer Science School will look like in the next 30 years, but we will do as much as we can to make it as exciting as the first one.
