History of the Calle Ocho Festival

For decades, Calle Ocho brought a smile to hundreds of people at the Calle Ocho festival. Behind smiles, laughter, and dance there are serious aspects of celebration. At first, Willy Bermello was able to bring neighbors closer together just by hoping for a small man at the party, but the festival will grow bigger and bigger. As the festival grew and became commercialized inevitably, Bermello became increasingly aware of its importance being forgotten.

Calle Ocho is the last celebration of the Miami carnival in recent weeks. The festival is one of the largest festivals in the world, with more than 1 million visitors participating in the Calle Ocho event. This is a free street festival introducing Pan American culture. It began in 1978 and has developed to include Cuban immigrants to express their culture and to involve diverse groups and Latin countries. In various cultural events and spectacular parties you can enjoy jazz, food, golf, football, domino competitions, carnival beauty contest, craft activities, fashion, fundraising activities for poor children. You can meet for a good career!

Celebrating Latin Culture with Carnival Miami, this is a series of community events in February and March including Miss Carnival beauty contest, cooking and wine tasting, and cooking competitions. The month's celebration ends with the Calle Ocho Festival (above), held in Little Havana celebrating all Hispanics through concerts, street performances and international cuisine. In Jungle Island on Watson Island, you can approach various exotic animals such as lemur, two toe slices, parrots and so on.
