Heavy rains wreak havoc in many parts of Kerala, more than 34,000 people housed in relief camps

Floods drowned low plains and more than 34,000 people were transferred to rescue camps due to torrential rain that devastated Kerala last week.

A total of 34,693 people from 8,033 families were transferred to 265 relief camps in the state and the control room monitored rain related cases.

At least 12 people were killed and 6 people were missing due to rain related incidents after the July monsoon outbreak.

Officials said the second rain caused about 36 houses to be destroyed and 1,214 houses were partially damaged. Participants in the control room said the flood did not go away in some places

Many areas of Kottayam and the Alappuzha area are still in the flood. Rain caused severe damage in many areas of the Kottayam area.

People living in lowlands moved to relief camps. According to local authorities, 8577 people from 2,300 households were transferred to 104 relief camps in this area.
