Heart of darkness

Joseph Conrad led an adventurous life, spent a lot of time in the sea, and most of his novels and short stories are based on some of his experiences. The inspiration for his dark heart came from his trip to the Congo in Africa where he witnessed the horrors of slavery and the harsh reality of imperialism.
