Unfair Health Management for Aboriginal Women As of 1996, there were 1 million indigenous peoples in Canada, of which 408,100 were women (Statistics Canada, 2000; Dion Stout et al., 2001). More than half live in urban areas and two thirds live in western Canada (Hanselmann, 2001). Vancouver is composed of 28,000 indigenous people, accounting for 7% of the population (Joseph, 1999). Of this total population, 70% live in Vancouver's poorest district, Downtown East Side (DTES).
Although the state of health management of Canadian indigenous people is severe at first glance, efforts are made to make indigenous people accessible to medical services. Noojimawinn Health Authority (NHA) is one of six indigenous health agencies in Ontario, established in 1997 through the Abroad Treatment and Health Strategy (AHWS). The institution is an indigenous and non-municipal health care professional who serves indigenous peoples living outside the province and the indigenous peoples of the city center to serve the health needs of the indigenous peoples I will talk with you. Likewise, McMaster University has recently implemented a new curriculum focusing on the health problems of indigenous peoples. This course is designed to raise awareness among medical students about Indigenous Canadian's unique health management issues.
Basic indigenous health services existed from the beginning of the 20th century. After the Second World War, the health management of residents in protected areas and northwest was transferred to medical service of the Federal Department of Health Department, budget, personnel and facilities increased drastically. Over the past two decades, the federal government has launched the process of "transfer of control" to indigenous communities and regional organizations, and medical care has become an integral part of indigenous self determination.
In history, this racial discrimination and discrimination has influenced indigenous peoples. The Canadian medical system is welcomed as one of the world's most advanced state-of-the-art medical systems, but many Canadian indigenous peoples still can not receive high quality medical care. Federal, rural and judicial conflicts, cultural barriers, and geographical isolation hinder indigenous people from entering the health care system.
