Is Car advertisement of Carl's Jr. Hamburger different from published Paris Hilton and Disney movies? From the feminist's point of view, both are very sexy and many people will claim to send negative messages to the children. They teach young girls that they are only appreciated by their sales of beauty. In this era of technology, children are spending more time in front of television. Whether it is an avant-garde comedy episode like "Two Half-Man" or a serious heart-warming episode of Oprah Winfrey's show, children can learn their work.
Recent Disney Princess movies are trying to break through some of the stereotypes of gender Disney added to the movie. There are still some stereotypes in this century Disney movie, so I told you to try it. Disney, however, strives to reduce stereotypes of gender by building a strong independent princess and enabling young girls to look back. Teana is the first Black Skin Princess in a Disney movie. Teana is the princess of a dream, it deserves recognition. She dreams of owning a restaurant. She kissed the frog and eventually became a frog, but the two came together and found a cure. She is not an attractive prince, she is someone who helps find a cure. This recent Disney movie has defeated some stereotypes that I saw in early Princess movies.
When I ask young girls, cousins, or friends if they want to be friends, whether the it is a princess, TV program character, or movie, the most common answer is the hero. Disney has made major progress over the years with roles such as Mulan, Tina (Princess and Frog), Merida (Brave) and so on but unfortunately these are not popular Disney characters pursued by young girls. Disney has created a metaphor that excludes expectations for young children and has a responsibility to create roles with various races, gender, beliefs, and personality. With this in mind, I hope the film industry (Disney and many others) will consider their target audience more. Because their movies have the ability to shape and deeply influence people's lives.
