The creation of Nunavut was too fast. In northern Canada, concepts of polar bears, penguins, eskimos may be born, but there is a history of exploitation in this area. Since the 1940's Inuit (Eskimo was considered a derogatory term for locals) was forced to assimilate Canadian laws and languages. Before Canadian officials, their economic and legal systems and infrastructure arrived, Inuit lived in a small group near Tundra. Located in the northwestern part of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut is one of the most populous and livable areas on Earth (see Map A). The Inuit of Greenland established its territory in 1979 (Thompson 76). Nunavut leaders want to establish a government that is familiar to Canadians and to build close cultural relations with people. The establishment of the Inuit government will be one of the most important elements, but one of the biggest social resources of Nunavut will allow Nunavut to involve young people and enter the next generation. Since nearly 56% of the population is under 25 years old, if this gets appropriate guidance and training, including research on new technologies such as computer, business administration, public relations etc., the new generation may be helping the entire Nunavut No update, bright future
